About Us

Desert Gypsies is a family troupe, formed in 2010. After honing our skills, we began performing professionally in 2012. We pride ourselves on our professionalism, warmth and enthusiasm, and our passion for sharing music and dance!

Would you like to meet the Gypsies? Let us introduce you!

Donna is the Desert Gypsies' troupe director, choreographer, and primary dancer. Sewing, jewelry-making, and crafting are among Donna's hobbies, and she makes the majority of the Desert Gypsies' costuming and jewelry. (She made all of the costuming, including the jewelry, in her picture.) She's passionate about flamenco, Romani (Gypsy), and Arabic music, and spends many happy hours exploring music and dance.

In addition, Donna is a registered dietitian and ACE-certified health coach, and is currently working on her Masters degree in marriage and family therapy. Donna teaches an online healthy cooking class and an online weight management class, and she teaches parenting classes for Clark County's Parenting Project. Donna is also a homeschooling mom.

Anthony is a senior in high school, and his hobbies include writing, astronomy, video games, and making his friends laugh. Although Anthony is a excellent Middle Eastern dancer, he also enjoys modern dance and music. Anthony finds Turkish Romani dance an unexpected bridge between Arabic and modern dance.

Angela is a sophomore in high school. In addition to performing Middle Eastern dance, Angela is also studying ballet. When she's not dancing, she's usually drawing. She loves working in pastels, and particularly enjoys drawing eyes and hands. Angela also enjoys swimming, writing prose and poetry, and baking.

Alexa is a freshman in high school. She loves animals, and volunteers with The Poppy Foundation (an organization that rescues cats). Alexa's hobbies include capoeira, quilting, and dancing to Michael Jackson's music!
